TimeBloom Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the TimeBloom — Social Media Awareness Chrome extension handles information when you use it.

TimeBloom works locally in your Chrome profile. It does not require an account, does not use analytics or advertising, and does not send social media usage records, browsing activity, reminder settings, or device activity information to the developer or to external servers.
1. About TimeBloom
TimeBloom helps users understand and manage the time they spend on recognized social media websites.
It measures eligible usage locally, presents visual summaries and trends, and can display optional reminders when the user reaches a self-selected daily limit.
TimeBloom does not automatically block websites, does not read page content, and does not maintain a complete record of every website the user visits.
2. Information TimeBloom may process
To provide usage measurement and awareness features, TimeBloom may temporarily process limited information about Chrome tabs and windows, including:
- The website address or hostname of an open tab
- The active, audible, discarded, and pinned state of a tab
- The identity and state of Chrome windows
- Whether a supported social media tab is active or playing audio
- Whether the device is active, idle, or locked
- The date and time associated with local usage checkpoints
TimeBloom uses this information to decide whether an eligible social media platform should receive usage time. It is designed to avoid counting multiple social media tabs at the same time.
3. Usage information stored locally
TimeBloom may store local, aggregated usage information such as:
- Total eligible usage time by day
- Total eligible usage time by recognized platform
- Session and visit counts
- Long-session counts
- Hourly and daily usage summaries
- User-created daily limits and reminder settings
- Enabled or disabled platform settings
- Custom social media domains added by the user
- Onboarding and dashboard preferences
These records are stored only in the user's Chrome profile and are not automatically uploaded to the developer or synchronized through a TimeBloom server.
4. Information TimeBloom does not intentionally collect
TimeBloom is not designed to read, collect, or store:
- Passwords or authentication credentials
- Form entries
- Private messages, comments, email content, or page communications
- Payment information
- Cookies or authentication tokens
- Full webpage text, images, video content, or document content
- Network request or response bodies
- A complete history of unrelated websites
- Keyboard input, mouse movements, or activity inside other applications
5. Active and multi-window tracking
TimeBloom may identify an eligible social media tab in the currently used Chrome window or, when enabled, an audible or visible eligible tab in another non-minimized Chrome window.
This allows TimeBloom to continue counting an actively playing social media video in another Chrome window or on another display. Chrome does not provide perfect physical-screen visibility information, so some multi-window decisions may rely on tab and window state made available by Chrome.
TimeBloom counts one primary social media context at a time and does not intentionally multiply total usage because several social media tabs are open simultaneously.
6. Idle-state processing
TimeBloom uses Chrome's idle-state information to avoid counting time while the device is locked or the user has been inactive for the configured idle period.
The extension does not receive the content of keyboard input or mouse activity. It receives only the general active, idle, or locked state provided by Chrome.
7. Reminders and awareness windows
Users may configure an optional daily social media limit. When usage reaches the selected threshold, TimeBloom may display a local notification or awareness window.
A stronger reminder may be displayed when usage reaches a higher threshold, such as twice the user's selected limit. These reminders may show:
- The user's current local usage total
- The user's selected daily limit
- A general awareness message
- Options such as taking a short break, opening the dashboard, or continuing intentionally
Reminder settings and snooze choices remain local to the Chrome profile. TimeBloom does not use notifications for advertising, marketing, or unsolicited messages.
8. Focus and research information
TimeBloom may display general educational information about digital interruptions, attention, and short-form media research.
TimeBloom does not directly measure a user's cognitive performance, mental health, productivity, or medical condition. Any displayed focus indicator is a local behavioral estimate based on usage patterns and is not a diagnosis, scientific test result, or guarantee of a specific percentage change in attention.
TimeBloom's usage summaries and awareness messages are provided for personal reflection. They are not medical, psychological, legal, or professional advice.
9. Custom domains and recognized platforms
TimeBloom includes a local list of recognized social media platforms. Users may enable or disable supported platforms and may add custom domains they personally want TimeBloom to treat as social media.
Custom domains are stored locally. Adding a custom domain does not send the domain to the developer or add it to a public TimeBloom database.
10. How information is used
Information processed by TimeBloom is used only to provide its disclosed, user-facing features:
- Measuring eligible social media usage
- Displaying daily, hourly, and platform-based summaries
- Showing charts and local trends
- Calculating local visit, session, and long-session statistics
- Applying user-selected limits and reminders
- Supporting user-created custom social media domains
- Exporting, importing, resetting, or deleting local usage records when requested
TimeBloom does not use this information for advertising, marketing, credit decisions, identity profiling, or unrelated purposes.
11. Browser permissions and website access
TimeBloom uses Chrome permissions and limited website access only to provide its disclosed social media awareness features.
- storage: Stores local usage summaries, settings, limits, custom domains, and preferences in the user's Chrome profile.
- idle: Reads the general active, idle, or locked device state so inactive time is not counted.
- alarms: Performs local usage checkpoints and supports reliable tracking when Chrome suspends and restarts the Manifest V3 service worker.
- tabs: Reads limited tab and window properties needed to identify eligible social media tabs and determine which single context should receive usage time.
- notifications: Displays optional local reminders when user-configured usage thresholds are reached.
- limited host access: Allows TimeBloom to recognize supported social media website addresses. It is not used to read page content, messages, form entries, or passwords.
12. Exporting and importing data
TimeBloom may allow users to export local usage records and preferences to a file and later import a compatible backup.
Exported files are created only after the user requests them. Once exported, those files are protected according to the security of the user's device and any location where the user chooses to store or share them.
13. Data sharing and external transmission
TimeBloom does not sell, rent, share, or transmit social media usage records, tab information, idle-state information, reminder settings, or extension preferences to advertisers, data brokers, analytics providers, or other third parties.
The extension does not use:
- Analytics services
- Advertising networks
- Tracking pixels
- Remote logging services
- Developer-operated external servers
- Remotely hosted executable code
14. Optional support link
TimeBloom may include an optional link to support independent development through Buy Me a Coffee.
TimeBloom does not contact that service automatically. A connection to Buy Me a Coffee occurs only if the user explicitly opens the support link. The external service's own terms and privacy policy apply after the user leaves the extension.
15. Data retention and deletion
Local usage records and settings may remain in the Chrome profile until the user deletes them, clears extension data, resets the extension, or removes TimeBloom.
Because TimeBloom does not maintain a developer-operated account or server-side database, there is no separate online account or remote usage history that must be deleted.
16. Data security
TimeBloom reduces external exposure by processing information locally and by avoiding developer-operated servers.
However, no local storage system can guarantee absolute security. Anyone who can access an unlocked device or Chrome profile may be able to access locally stored extension information.
17. Children's privacy
TimeBloom is not specifically directed toward children. The extension does not knowingly collect information from children through a developer-operated server.
18. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
TimeBloom's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information accessed through Chrome APIs is used only to provide or improve TimeBloom's disclosed, user-facing social media awareness and usage-measurement functionality. It is not used for advertising, unrelated profiling, or other undisclosed purposes.
19. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when TimeBloom's functionality, data practices, or legal obligations change.
The effective date and last-updated date at the top of this page will be revised when material changes are published.
