TabGauge Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the TabGauge — Memory Dashboard Chrome extension handles information when you use it.

TabGauge works locally in your Chrome profile. It does not require an account, does not use analytics or advertising, and does not send tab information, memory measurements, browsing activity, or device-memory information to the developer or to external servers.
1. About TabGauge
TabGauge helps users understand browser memory pressure, compare eligible open tabs using page-level memory indicators, and take user-controlled actions such as sleeping or closing selected tabs.
TabGauge does not automatically close tabs, does not modify webpage content, and does not perform actions without an explicit user request.
2. Information TabGauge may process
To provide its dashboard and tab-management features, TabGauge may temporarily process limited information about open Chrome tabs, including:
- Tab title
- Website address or hostname
- Favicon
- Window and tab identifiers
- Active, pinned, audible, discarded, and highlighted states
- Last-accessed information when available from Chrome
- Page-level performance and memory counters for eligible tabs
TabGauge may also process system physical-memory information made available by Chrome, including total and available physical memory. These values are used to calculate the local memory-pressure display.
3. User-initiated page measurement
Page-level measurement begins only after the user explicitly chooses the measurement action in TabGauge.
During measurement, TabGauge briefly attaches to eligible tabs through Chrome's debugger interface and requests only the performance and memory counters needed for its dashboard. It detaches after the measurement attempt is complete.
TabGauge does not intentionally inspect or collect:
- Passwords or authentication credentials
- Form entries
- Private messages or email content
- Page text or document content
- Cookies or authentication tokens
- Network request or response bodies
- Browser local-storage or session-storage contents
- Console logs
Chrome may show a browser notice while the debugger interface is attached. This is expected. TabGauge uses the interface only for the disclosed, user-requested memory-measurement feature.
4. How information is used
Information processed by TabGauge is used only to provide its user-facing purpose:
- Displaying physical system-memory pressure
- Listing and sorting open tabs
- Displaying page-level memory indicators for measured tabs
- Helping users select multiple tabs
- Sleeping selected tabs when the user requests it
- Closing selected tabs after user confirmation
- Remembering local dashboard and safety preferences
TabGauge does not use this information for advertising, marketing, credit decisions, identity profiling, or unrelated purposes.
5. Local storage
TabGauge stores extension preferences locally in storage associated with the extension in the user's Chrome profile.
Locally stored information may include settings such as safety protections, filters, sorting preferences, and dashboard options. If the extension caches dashboard state, that state remains local to the Chrome profile.
TabGauge does not maintain a developer-operated account, cloud database, or synchronization server.
6. Data sharing and external transmission
TabGauge does not sell, rent, share, or transmit tab information, memory measurements, system-memory information, or extension settings to advertisers, data brokers, analytics providers, or other third parties.
The extension does not use:
- Analytics services
- Advertising networks
- Tracking pixels
- Remote logging services
- Developer-operated external servers
- Remotely hosted executable code
7. Browser permissions
TabGauge uses Chrome permissions only to provide its disclosed memory-dashboard and tab-management features.
- tabs: Lists open tabs and reads the limited tab properties needed for the dashboard. It also allows TabGauge to focus, discard, or close tabs only after the user requests the action.
- storage: Stores extension preferences and locally cached dashboard settings in the user's Chrome profile.
- sidePanel: Displays the TabGauge dashboard in Chrome's side panel.
- system.memory: Reads total and available physical-memory values supplied by Chrome to calculate the local system-memory gauge.
- debugger: Temporarily requests page-level performance and memory counters for eligible tabs after the user explicitly starts measurement.
8. Sleeping and closing tabs
TabGauge may offer actions to sleep or close selected tabs.
Sleeping a tab uses Chrome's tab-discarding capability. The tab remains visible in the tab strip and normally reloads when the user returns to it.
Closing a tab removes it from the browser. TabGauge performs these actions only after the user selects the affected tabs and explicitly requests the action. Safety protections may be used for active, pinned, or audible tabs.
9. Measurement limitations
TabGauge's page-level values are indicators obtained from interfaces available to Chrome extensions. They may not represent the complete memory used by an entire Chrome process, shared browser resources, graphics memory, operating-system caches, or every component associated with a webpage.
The dashboard is intended to support informed tab management and should not be treated as a system diagnostic, security, or performance certification.
10. Data retention and deletion
Extension preferences and any locally cached state may remain in the Chrome profile until the user clears extension data, resets the extension, or removes TabGauge.
Because TabGauge does not maintain a developer-operated account or server-side database, there is no separate online account or remote record that must be deleted.
11. Data security
TabGauge reduces external exposure by processing information locally and by avoiding developer-operated servers.
However, no local storage system can guarantee absolute security. Anyone who can access an unlocked device or Chrome profile may be able to access locally stored extension settings.
12. Children's privacy
TabGauge is not specifically directed toward children. The extension does not knowingly collect information from children through a developer-operated server.
13. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
TabGauge's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information accessed through Chrome APIs is used only to provide or improve TabGauge's disclosed, user-facing memory-dashboard and tab-management functionality. It is not used for advertising, unrelated profiling, or other undisclosed purposes.
14. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when TabGauge's functionality, data practices, or legal obligations change.
The effective date and last-updated date at the top of this page will be revised when material changes are published.
