SnapshotDiff Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 25, 2026
Last updated: July 25, 2026
SnapshotDiff stores webpage snapshots, change history, and settings locally in your Chrome profile. It has no account, analytics, advertising, developer-operated server, or remote code.
1. Purpose
SnapshotDiff lets users save a local text snapshot of a webpage or selected page area, compare it with a later version, and optionally check that selected page when the user revisits the same site.
2. Information processed
After an explicit user action, SnapshotDiff may process the current webpage title, sanitized URL, visible text from the full page or selected area, a CSS selector for a user-selected area, capture time, and an optional image of the currently visible viewport. It may also store user-created labels, notes, tags, sensitivity settings, and local change history.
3. Information not intentionally collected
SnapshotDiff is not designed to read or store passwords, payment information, authentication tokens, cookies, private messages, form entries, network traffic, or a complete browsing history. Smart-clean extraction excludes common forms, hidden content, scripts, navigation, advertising, and consent overlays where possible. Users should still review the selected area before saving sensitive pages.
4. Local storage
Tracked-page metadata and preferences are stored with Chrome extension storage. Snapshot text, local version history, and optional viewport images are stored in IndexedDB associated with the extension. Data remains in the local Chrome profile until the user deletes it, resets SnapshotDiff, clears extension data, or removes the extension.
5. Optional check-on-visit access
SnapshotDiff does not request permanent access to all websites during installation. If a user enables “Check on visit” for a tracked page, Chrome asks for access to that specific website origin. SnapshotDiff then compares only matching tracked pages when the user revisits that site. The user can disable the feature and remove site access through Chrome's extension settings.
6. Notifications
Desktop notifications are optional. If permission is granted, SnapshotDiff may show a local notification when an on-visit comparison exceeds the user-selected sensitivity threshold. Notifications are not used for advertising or marketing.
7. Data sharing and transmission
SnapshotDiff does not sell, rent, share, or transmit saved snapshots, page content, browsing activity, settings, or change history to the developer or third parties. No analytics, tracking pixels, remote logging, cloud synchronization, or remotely hosted executable code are used.
8. Browser permissions
- activeTab: temporary access to the current webpage after the user opens SnapshotDiff.
- scripting: runs packaged extraction and area-selection code on the authorized page.
- storage: stores local preferences and tracked-page metadata.
- optional host access: requested only for a specific site when the user enables Check on visit.
- optional notifications: used only for local change alerts if the user grants permission.
9. Export, import, and deletion
Users may export a JSON backup and import a compatible backup. Exported files may contain saved page text and should be protected accordingly. Users can delete individual tracked pages or all local SnapshotDiff data from the dashboard.
10. Limitations
Webpages can contain dynamic content, advertisements, randomized text, and layout changes. SnapshotDiff uses configurable noise filters but cannot guarantee that every detected change is important or that every change will be detected. It is not a legal, compliance, security, or archival certification service.
11. Limited Use disclosure
SnapshotDiff's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide or improve the extension's disclosed, user-facing page snapshot and comparison functionality.
12. External support link
The dashboard includes an optional Buy Me a Coffee link. SnapshotDiff does not contact that service automatically. A connection occurs only if the user explicitly clicks the link, after which the external service's own terms and privacy policy apply.
13. Contact
Questions can be sent to tahaemredemirkol@gmail.com.
14. Changes
This policy may be updated when SnapshotDiff's features, data practices, or legal obligations change. The date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are published.
