FormTrail Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the FormTrail Chrome extension handles information when you use it.
Effective date: July 25, 2026
Last updated: July 25, 2026
FormTrail works locally in your Chrome profile. It does not require an account, does not use analytics or advertising, and does not send saved submission records to the developer or to external servers.
1. About FormTrail
FormTrail allows users to create private personal records of online forms they choose to scan and save.
FormTrail does not submit forms on your behalf. It does not continuously monitor websites. A form scan begins only after you explicitly activate the extension and request a scan on the current webpage.
2. Information FormTrail may process
When you explicitly request a form scan, FormTrail may temporarily process information visible in supported form fields on the current webpage, including:
- Form field labels
- Text entered into supported fields
- Selected dropdown values
- Checkbox and radio-button selections
- The webpage title
- A sanitized version of the webpage address
FormTrail presents detected information for review before it is saved. You can exclude individual fields and choose not to create the record.
A saved record may also contain information that you add or select, such as:
- A record title
- A submission status
- Personal notes
- A follow-up date
- The date and time when the record was created or updated
3. Sensitive fields
FormTrail is designed to exclude or avoid selecting fields that appear to contain sensitive authentication or payment information. Examples include:
- Passwords
- PIN codes
- One-time authentication codes
- Credit-card security codes
- Hidden form fields
- Security answers
Other potentially sensitive fields, such as identity, passport, financial-account or similar information, may be left unselected by default when detected.
Automated field detection cannot guarantee that every sensitive field will be recognized correctly. Review the detected fields before saving a record and exclude anything you do not want stored.
4. File uploads
FormTrail does not read, copy or store the contents of files uploaded through a webpage form.
When supported and explicitly included, FormTrail may record only the displayed filename. The file itself is not accessed or saved by the extension.
5. How information is used
Information processed by FormTrail is used only to provide its user-facing purpose:
- Detecting form fields after a user-requested scan
- Displaying detected information for review
- Creating and organizing local submission records
- Searching and filtering saved records
- Scheduling user-requested follow-up reminders
- Exporting or restoring records when requested by the user
FormTrail does not use your information for advertising, marketing, profiling, credit decisions or unrelated purposes.
6. Local storage
FormTrail stores saved records and preferences locally in storage associated with the extension in your Chrome profile.
This information is not automatically uploaded to the developer or synchronized through a FormTrail server.
Data may remain on the device until you delete it, remove the extension, clear the extension's storage, or replace it by importing another backup.
7. Data sharing and external transmission
FormTrail does not sell, rent or share saved form records with advertisers, data brokers or other third parties.
FormTrail does not transmit saved form records, form contents, notes, browsing history or reminder details to the developer.
The extension does not use:
- Analytics services
- Advertising networks
- Tracking pixels
- Remote logging services
- Remotely hosted executable code
8. Browser permissions
FormTrail uses Chrome permissions only to provide its stated submission-recording features.
- activeTab: Provides temporary access to the webpage after you explicitly activate FormTrail.
- scripting: Runs the packaged form-detection logic on the authorized webpage.
- storage: Saves records and preferences locally in your Chrome profile.
- sidePanel: Displays the review and record-management interface beside the webpage.
- alarms: Schedules follow-up reminders that you explicitly create.
- notifications: Displays optional local reminders related to saved records.
9. Exporting and importing records
FormTrail may allow you to export your records to a file and later import a compatible backup.
Exported files are created only after you request them. Once exported, those files are stored and protected according to the settings and security of your device and any location where you choose to copy them.
Review exported files before sharing them because they may contain information that you selected from online forms.
10. Reminders and notifications
Follow-up reminders are optional and are created only when you choose a reminder date.
Reminder information is processed locally through Chrome's extension features. FormTrail does not send reminder information to an external notification server.
11. Data deletion
You can delete individual records or all saved records from the FormTrail interface.
You may also remove locally stored extension data by removing FormTrail from Chrome or by clearing the extension's stored data through Chrome.
Because FormTrail does not maintain a developer-operated account or server-side record database, there is no separate online account that must be closed.
12. Data security
FormTrail minimizes external exposure by keeping its records within the user's Chrome profile and by avoiding developer-operated servers.
However, no local storage system can guarantee absolute security. Anyone who can access your unlocked device or Chrome profile may be able to access locally stored extension information.
Protect your device with appropriate account security, screen locking, operating-system updates and other security controls.
13. Children's privacy
FormTrail is not specifically directed toward children. The extension does not knowingly collect information from children through a developer-operated server.
14. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
FormTrail's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information accessed through Chrome APIs is used only to provide or improve FormTrail's disclosed, user-facing purpose. It is not used for advertising, unrelated profiling or other undisclosed purposes.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when FormTrail's functionality, data practices or legal obligations change.
The effective date and last-updated date at the top of this page will be revised when material changes are published.
